The Able Stables is a social enterprise that offers accessible holidays, subsidised if needed, in two stylish, sustainable, wood clad cottages.
We are a not for profit, social enterprise offering accessible accommodation in Norfolk. We believe that a holiday should not be a luxury and something that everyone should have access to regardless of mobility or financial ability.
The layout of the properties has been thoughtfully created and is centred around two stylish, sustainable, and secluded wooden clad cottages.
The accommodation and its surroundings have been arranged, if needed, for the independent wheelchair user. There is a large covered outside seating area attached to each cottage and both are surrounded by private walled courtyards, in a quiet rural location.
Everything about the cottages is set up to provide a reassuring and restorative stay, a place where everybody can enjoy a relaxing holiday.
Read more about our facilities below and please enquire now with any questions you may have.
When you come and enjoy a holiday at The Able Stables you allow us to offer subsidised stays to others.
Our paying guests mean that we can apportion 60% of our availability to groups and individuals who would not otherwise be able to take a break.
We have already offered our subsidised stays to guests with a broad range of needs. We have specialist equipment available if needed. We recognise that every stay has individual requirements and work with each guest to ensure their needs are met.
The Able Stables hosts a weekly visit from Fitzroy.org – The Maltings and helps support meaningful volunteer placements for adults with learning disabilities. During their visits the group help with a variety of tasks and help maintain the garden and grounds that surround The Able Stables project.
The whole ethos of The Able Stables is that it provides a high quality, well-appointed location to stay for all. The accommodation is arranged within two cottages, Sam's and Hewie's. Each of the cottages has its own garden, utility area and outside/inside room. They are both situated within the enclosed stable area and are connected by a covered walkway. They can also be rented together and accommodate 4 people.

Just wow! Both my husband and I are disabled, and we have different needs so it can be hard to find somewhere that suits us both. Such comfortable beds and we loved that there is access to the covered outside room. Thank you so much.

First holiday with our 11-month-old dog. We were so delighted to find a wheelchair accessible cottage that also took a dog, and it did not disappoint. So unique and we had an amazing time.

Thank you so much for letting us sample this delightful getaway. Just what we both needed. The whole place is a credit to you, and well done for the way you treat people, we will go home refreshed and happy. Its super to be back.... its not just the miles and miles of beautiful walks we can enjoy with our dog Brodie, its about the little touches that make the place so relaxing and wonderful. We love all the flower arrangements and candles, that are ready to light in the garden room that brings the outside in.

I had brought my daughter and my Daxi for a surprise weekend away. I knew my daughter would love the Able Stable. She works so hard and hasn't had a break away for a long time. It has been so restful to chill in the outside area and read a book. Sit and chat in the evenings with the heaters on out there. What a beautiful tranquil place to come. We love Norfolk and our dog walking holidays and this has been a great place to stay. We will definitely come again and recommend it to friends and family.

This was a well needed long weekend away. A unique, peaceful and cosy setting which is ideally located to explore the surrounding area - which we did - walking 17 miles over two days! Holkham Hall and Sandringham were great days out with the pooch. Able Stables was safe and relaxing in the evenings and perfect place to recharge our batteries. Also check out the local pub, The Crown. Many thanks.

This was a much needed mini break to recharge our batteries. Able Stables and its setup is fantastic. We absolutely loved the outdoor living space which we found comfortable, stylish and peaceful. Fascilities were fabulous for me (permanent wheelchair user T - 12 incomplete SCI) and the ethos behind it make it extra special. Great base for exploring too. We will definitely be returning.

Our second visit to this lovely pod! Really enjoyed our stay with our small dog. Great new fire pot, stayed outside too late most nights, with owl and birds sounds. Lovely walles, picked lovely big blackberries! Great meal at the Crown (Dog welcome). Great Sunday lunch at Abbey Creake with the largest yorkshere pudding I have ever seen.
